Since its modest beginning in the mid-1970s, the Southeastern Raptor Center has historically treated up to 500 birds of prey annually from 21 different species. Species treated at the center include Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles, Peregrine Falcons, Great Horned Owls and Red-tailed Hawks. The Raptor Training Facility consists of 24 state of the art mews which house raptors that cannot be released and are therefore used for public education. The Southeastern Raptor Rehabilitation Center (SERRC) was renamed the Southeastern Raptor Center (SRC)in 2004 to reflect its multiple missions of rehabilitation, education and research. Support areas also provide staff and volunteers space needed for training and group activities. The Laster's also contributed to the rehabilitation aspects of injured raptors with 6 large flight aviaries for aerobic conditioning of releasable raptors.
