Overwhelmingly Large (OWL) Telescope
The Overwhelmingly Large Telescope (OWL) is a conceptual design by the European Southern Observatory organization for a telescope which is intended to have a single aperture of 100 meters in diameter.
The OWL (OverWhelmingly Large) acronym is an ironic reference to the present generation of "Very Large", and "Extremely Large" telescopes.
The Owl in their logo is most likely an Eurasian Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo)
