Itombwe Owl ~ Tyto prigoginei (Phodilus prigoginei)


The Itombwe Owl is a small owl with no ear-tufts. Also known as African Bay Owl or the Congo Bay Owl, it was previously placed in the genus Phodilus with other Bay Owls.


Distribution: Itombwe Mountains in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and also Nyungwe Forest in southwest Rwanda. May also occur in Burundi.

Status: Apparently rare and endangered.
