Congo Bay Owl ~ Phodilus prigoginei (Tyto prigoginei)

Introduction

The Congo Bay Owl is a small owl with no ear-tufts. It is also known as the African Bay Owl or the Itombwe Owl. Some authors place this species in the genus Tyto with other Barn Owls.

Information

Distribution: Itombwe Mountains in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and also Nyungwe Forest in southwest Rwanda. May also occur in Burundi.

Status: Apparently rare and endangered.
